The Johannes Kepler University Linz
The Johannes Kepler University Linz is the largest university in Upper Austria, with an enrollment of about 13,000 students.
Founded in 1966, JKU has a strong focus on degree programs in engineering, economics, social sciences, and law. The main campus of JKU is in the north of Linz, Austria third-largest city (190,000 inhabitants), and one of Europe's capitals of culture 2009.
Five research institutes of the JKU are located in the Softwarepark Hagenberg.
Johannes Kepler
Johannes Kepler (1571–1630) was a German mathematician, astronomer and astrologer. He is best known for his eponymous laws of planetary motion which he developed during the 17th century scientific revolution.
In 1574 Johannes Kepler studied at the Linz Landhaus which has been used as the Adeliche Landt-Schuele. The university founded in 1966 as the Hochschule für Sozial- und Wirtschaftswissenschaften later in 1975 was named after Johannes Kepler.
